Festination
I am hurrying down a dark street
Moving in and out of the shadows
Made by the humming lights
There is no one else around
I begin to count each lamp
It gives me something to do
As I move quickly along
I come to an intersection
I lose whatever count I'm on
The traffic signal indicates
That I can go, continue
But I am frozen, locked
Cannot shatter the stillness
Room of Shadows
I stand in an empty room
There are no chairs
No furniture at all
Just ancient dust
I look into the shadows
Wonder why I'm here
The walls are barren
Windows sealed
I have been here forever
I can never leave
There are no doors
No exits to the world
Outside my fears
Cabal
Six men gathered in the gloom
They drew a cryptic symbol
With six places for their hands
From worn dusty pockets
Each man produced an object
A silver button, a piece of bone
A lock of hair, a bit of leather
A broken shell, a bullet
They set the objects on the symbol
Each man's token in its place
Now they knew their fates
They faded back into the darkness
No moon would light their way
I See Faces
A gray shadow hovers
Lingers like a mist
Fills the room with dust
I hear old voices
Speaking words I know
Words I've already heard
Repeating phrases
From the depths of time
Dreams become a memory
Memories become my dreams
I see faces from so long ago
A sea of eyes and moving lips
Floating softly in the night
t
Jungle Spirits
There are children in the jungle
Hidden in the green forest
Running along paths where feet
Have carved away the flowers
They hurtle through the shadows
Jumping, leaping, laughing
Waving their hands and arms
To scatter the bright red birds
They call each other's names
Sing out the words as songs
They reach a dewy clearing
Tumble to the grassy ground
Fall into a dreamless sleep
Eclipse
A shadow falls across the sun
Shuts out the fiery eye
Plunges the day to darkness
People gather in the shadow
Watch as the orb is dimmed
Some chant and pray
Others dance and sing
All try to awaken the spirits
Trapped in the burning ring
The spirits leap and lunge
Send up geysers of flame
That cannot be contained
That burn freely once again
One Quick Peek
I see lush green fields
A riot of colorful flowers
Leaves like tiny hands
Waving in the winds
Horses, sheep and cattle
Dot the verdant slopes
As if a painter had etched
Each one upon a canvas
A flock of speeding birds
Whirl across the clouds
Turn sharply in a sky
The color of blue crystal
Ignited by a golden sun
